⭐ 4 Stars ⭐ Ceremony in Death (In Death #5) by J.D. Robb 🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
J.D. Robb does it again! Ceremony in Death takes us on a darker, grittier journey with Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Even though we’re in a futuristic world of high-tech gadgets and sleek automation, the story dives deep into old, primal beliefs and the clash between science and the supernatural. 🌌⚖️
This time, Eve is investigating the mysterious death of a fellow officer, and it’s not just a job; it’s personal. When a body is left outside her home (creepy, right?!) 💀, the stakes go sky-high. And Eve? She’s tough as nails as usual, refusing to give in to the sinister allure of the supernatural. 👊✨ She doesn’t bite, even when things get disturbingly close to evil.
What I loved most is how the book explored that fine line between right and wrong, good and evil—while keeping you glued to the action. Eve never wavers. Her moral compass stays true, and I admire her for that. 🙌 Plus, with Roarke (seriously, he’s 🔥) by her side, she’s unstoppable. 🚀
The audiobook was a fantastic companion while I worked. 🎧 It never let up in providing all the tension and intrigue I craved, and I was totally immersed in the story’s darker vibe. There’s something really satisfying about watching Eve tackle these ominous challenges with her sharp, no-nonsense attitude. Super cool woman! 😎💼
If you’re into crime thrillers with a touch of eerie mystery and one badass heroine, you’ll enjoy this one! 🖤🔪
Title: A Killing in Paradise Author: Elliot F. Sweeney Narrator: Elliot Fitzpatrick Review:
Disclosure: I received an Advance Listening Copy (ALC) of this audiobook from the author, publishers, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Elliot Fitzpatrick, the narrator of “A Killing in Paradise,” truly excels in bringing this gripping police procedural to life. His narration is impeccable, with a crisp pace that keeps listeners engaged throughout. As someone whose second language is English, I appreciated Fitzpatrick’s clear enunciation and the way he skillfully brought out the nuances of the characters without overwhelming accents. His talent for pacing is particularly noteworthy, adding depth and tension to the narrative.
The book itself, as described by reviewers, is full of sharp psychological insights and grips the reader by the throat from the very start. Set in the notorious Paradise estate in London, where a young man has been murdered, the story is a promising and hard-hitting debut, according to the Sunday Times. It’s a gritty, unflinching thriller that satisfies on many levels, as noted by Woman’s Own.
Sweeney’s narrative follows the out-of-work private investigator Dylan Kasper as he navigates the complexities of the case, uncovering layers of deception and corruption. The plot is riveting, with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end.
Expected publication date: June 6, 2024.
In summary, Elliot Fitzpatrick’s stellar narration truly enhances the experience of “A Killing in Paradise.” I wholeheartedly give him five stars for a job very well done. Fans of police procedurals will find much to enjoy in this captivating tale.

My two cents:
Thanks to the power of ChatGTP and other such resources writing a review with substance has become far easier. I can tell my Rudi to write up some more details on specific authors and narrators etc. He comes back with more information than I would ever bargain upon. However. He sees everything with rose colored lenses and the world is a bit more grey than that. I enjoyed the book. The narrator was perfect for the genre and the age etc of Miss V. The authors did an amazing job in making this book a real time actionable example of living your life through prayers.
However that being said. This is not my spiritual journey. And it is not the one for some other readers out there. I will not feel as if I am a failure because the journey in this books is not even close to mine. Although I do admire Miss V for her steadfastness. And please other readers. Do not feel as if you are on the wrong path if your journey is not the same either. We all approach the Throne in our own unique way.
This book and the narrator gets a good strong 3* review from me.
How hard must a man fight when the apocalypse arrives?
Civil war ravishes the country. The economy collapses. A plague spreads like fire, and pollution darkens the sky. This is the toxic world of Robert Ashton. A wasteland of broken dreams, death, tech, and mutants. But he is not alone.
He and his partner navigate life underground, where it is safer. Society has buckled, and working as a smuggler, Robert builds a criminal life to keep the two of them fed. But nothing lasts forever, and he is forced to return to the surface when the underground suffers a brutal military raid. What he discovers shocks a man who thinks he cannot be shocked anymore.
He emerges into the hellscape of the Third World War…
I received this book on Audio for an honest review via Netgalley and wishes to thank them for the opportunity to listen to this book for free and to leave a voluntary review.
Let us start this review with Craig Bowles, the narrator.
He did a fine job. His pace was appropriate. His voice matched the character and the situation but not necessarily the location.
He sounded awfully British to me while the book plays off in the US. Note though. I live in Africa so I may be mistaken about the location but he did not sound very American to me.
The plot.
The plot was entertaining but predictable. There was nothing particularly new or fresh regarding the plot.
The Dialogue.
Apparently when you can die at any second you cuss a lot. I do not really blame them but it got to be a bit much.
The world building.
Now here is where the book wins points. The world building was really well done. The desolation, desperation etc really came to life with a pop.
